Everything you need to get rolling
Skate hire
We have over 400 pairs of skates, from child size 6 up to adult size 14, so everyone in the family can get rolling. The hire price is shown beside each ticket option, so there is nothing unexpected at checkout. Bring your own skates if you have them — all types are welcome.
Help finding their feet
Most children arrive having never skated before, and that is exactly what our staff are there for. They are experienced skaters and are on the rink throughout to help your child get going. Wristguards, helmets, knee and elbow pads are all free to use, and we will help you get the right fit.
Some info for your visit
Is there free car parking?
Yes, there is on-street parking. At peak times it can get very busy, especially at weekends and during the school holidays, so you might not find a space right outside. It is often easier to park at Shields Road Subway station, a few minutes walk from the rink.
What public transport links are nearby?
Rollerstop is very accessible by public transport. We are just a few minutes walk from both Kinning Park and Shields Road Subway stations. If you are travelling by bus, McGill’s 38 and First’s 9 both go down Paisley Road West, right next to the rink.
Is there somewhere to get food?
Yes, our cafe is inside the venue and serves hot food, snacks and drinks at all family sessions, with dairy-free and gluten-free options too. There is seating right beside the rink, so you can watch the skating while you eat.
Can I bring my own snacks, drinks or food?
No. Please support our in-rink cafe – no food or drink from outside is permitted in our venue. If your child has an allergy or a specific dietary need, speak to the cafe team and they will help.
Are there lockers for belongings?
Yes, lockers cost 50p, which is non-returnable once the door is locked. They are big enough for coats and bags, so you are not carrying everything around the rink.
Do parents need to skate?
Not at all – spectating is free at family sessions, and plenty of parents watch from the seating around the rink. If you would rather join in you will need your own ticket, and skate hire goes up to an adult size 14. Do note that children under 13 are not permitted without an adult.
Questions about our family discos
Which session should I book?
If you want the full roller disco – music, lights and a busy rink – book Friday Fun or a Weekend Roller Disco. If you would rather something quieter, especially with younger children, Jam runs in the middle of the day and is much calmer. £8 Skate is the best value if you are bringing the whole family.
How old does my child need to be?
All our family sessions are for ages 4 and over. There is no upper age limit – grown-ups are very welcome to skate too.
Do I need to stay with my child?
Children under 13 are not permitted without an adult. We recommend that all under-16s are accompanied by an adult, at least until you are confident they can skate. You do not have to skate yourself – plenty of parents watch from the seating around the rink.
Do adults need a ticket?
Only if you are skating. There is no fee for spectators at family sessions, so if you are coming along to watch you do not need a ticket.
My child has never skated before, is that OK?
More than OK – most children at our family discos are skating for the first time. Our staff are on the rink throughout to help them find their feet, and there are skate aids available to borrow.
Are there skates available to hire?
Yes, we have over 400 pairs starting at child size 6 up to an adult size 14. Please note we disinfect and quarantine skates after each use, so your first choice may not always be available.
Can we bring our own skates?
Absolutely, and it is often easier for children who already skate. It is up to you to make sure they are safe to use. All types of skates are welcome.
What should my child wear?
Anything comfortable that does not restrict movement – leggings or joggers work well. If you are hiring skates you MUST bring socks. If you forget, you can buy a pair from our skate shop.
What protective equipment is provided?
Wristguards, helmets, knee pads and elbow pads are free to use at every session, in children’s sizes as well as adult. We strongly recommend wristguards and a helmet for first-time skaters, and our staff will help you get the fit right.
We can no longer attend, can we get a refund?
Refunds can be given if you cancel no less than 7 days before the session. If you let us know between 24 hours and 6 days before, you can request a Gift Card to the value of your tickets and use it to book another date. If you tell us on the day, or after the session, you are not eligible for a Gift Card or refund.
